The expeditions of Airborne Ranger Club of Finland

Crossing a crevasse

The first climbing expedition was made to the Mont Blanc in 1995 where 57 climbers reached the top. Since then the expeditions from the Airborne Ranger Club of Finland have strived for more and more challenging destinations around the world.

The experience from South and north America was gained in the expeditions to Huascaran (6768m), Peru and Denali (6194m), Alaska. The circumstances in Peru taught about operating in a different kind of hygiene and culture. The members got also the first real experiences of acute mountain sickness, their treatment and rescue operations in mountain environment. 13 climbers summited the northern top of Huascaran. The preparations to face the cold environment in Alaska were very thorough and therefore 29 climbers out of 34 members summited Denali. This was well above the average of 43% in that mountain.

The first 8000m expedition and first touch of Himalaya was in 2002 in the expedition to Shisha Pangma where the middle peak was summited. The first fully finnish expedition to Mount Everest was arranged in 2005. The top was not reached but the experience gained is valuable for the future expeditions.

Apart from the climbing and arctic expeditions the club has trained in the glacier travel courses in Olhava, Kebnekaise and the Alps number of people interested in climbing. The club's target is to be one of the world leading expert in climbing and arctic expeditions.
