5.5.2009 Prepairing

"Today we were preparing for upcoming summit attempt in the surrounding area of the basecamp. We started at 06:30 with small backbags. Everyone had little bit of food and drink and of course a clear mind. We were heading to Kala Pattar, around 5500m high rock formation. The speed was kept up by O'Malley, aka. Esa. We arrived at the top at 08:00 when beautiful and warming sun joined us. We decided to continue to the nearest willage called Gorak Shep. We enjoyed a pumpkin pie (without a meat) and oat cookies as a dessert. After a short rest we had a moment of stretching outside the lodge. Someone had heard that Tomi had apparently done some stretching before so he was given the honor to lead the 30min moment of stretching. We felt how the energy flowed into our tired bodies. Juha who is known nowadays by a name "The man with no voice" suggested that to have a positive mind for the return trek we should do salutations to the sun. The trek back to basecamp went almost without an incident. Jussi, in a top physical condition, started to lead the team but unfortunately bumped into a Croatian expedition getting bruises all over his body. Arri followed very close and during the emergency braking a bit of Yak dung under the shoe made him to fall from the path. A followed slight brain damage hardly is an obstacle to him in the mountain. Otherwise everything went well and no more incidents occurred!"

Well, as everyone noticed this was only a story. We had a recovery day in the basecamp concentrating on the equipment service and stuffing energy into ourselves.

All is well.

Greetings to our families, loved ones and friends.
