28.3.2009 Lukla to Phakding
It was a chilly morning in Lukla, that started by waiting Mikko and
Arri to arrive from Kathmandu. They got rather close to Lukla airport
but when the morning turned cloudy the aeroplane was not able to land
and returned to Kathmandu.
We decided to start the trek and hoped that they can arrive tomorrow
and follow as vanguard. The paths to Khumbu area join in Choplung
village and continue to north alongside Dudhi Kosi river valley. We
crossed the river by suspension bridge in the village of Phakding and
arrived in our next lodge at height of 2650m. On the way we discovered
the capability of local porters to carry huge loads. The practice
starts very young as you can see in the picture.
This was the first trekking day for the expedition and to honour that
we decided to have a vegetarian day, and most probably there will be
more of them to come.
All is well.
