We were supposed to collect oxygen bottles today but due to a bank
holiday we didn't know the customs was closed and oxygen is still in
customs. Therefore we had to make last minutes modifications to our
plan. Arri and Mikko will stay in Kathmandu tomorrow and will collect
and check the oxygen bottles, masks and regulators while others will
fly to Lukla. There we will wait for them to arrive on Saturday morning
to start the trek towards Everest base camp.
Today morning we sent last personal staff to Thamserku. We weighed all
materials and surprisingly we needed only 2-3 more sherpas to carry our
staff to base camp. Our equipment (all personal and expedition gear)
weighs bit over 3000kg and we need 110 sherpas to carry them. The
equipment will be shipped to Lukla in few days time to be carried to
base camp. Hopefully all will reach basecamp intact.
During the afternoon some of us visited the monkey Temple on the
western side of the city. It was very peaceful place after all traffic,
noise and crowd in Thamel and downtown Kathmandu. From there we
continued to Durbar Square and the back to the hotel by foot.
All is well
